October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

15 years ago I was diagnosed with Stage 2-B non-invasive lobular breast cancer. I had a double mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiation. Why am I posting this vulnerable image you ask? Well, I want your attention because I believe I have something very important to say!! I would like to share the reasons I believe I developed cancer and the reasons I believe I am still a survivor, to help prevent others from the same.
.
Key factors that I believe contributed to the disease:
1. Genetics – my father and his mother both had breast cancer.
2. Being very unhappy with my life for a number of years.
3. Excessive alcohol consumption – for many years and as a result of my unhappiness I drank too much. Alcohol is a huge risk factor for cancer, especially breast.
4. Smoking cigarettes
.
Key factors as to why I believe I am a 15 year survivor:
1. My yoga, meditation and chanting practice which I do almost every day. I discovered yoga 14 years ago and there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that this is the most significant contributing factor. Kundalini (and other) yoga has completely changed my life, giving me an inner peace and calm like never before.
2. My diet – mostly plant based/vegan. I rarely drink alcohol, don’t smoke and haven’t for years. I try to keep my body as alkaline as possible because cancer cannot survive in an alkaline environment.
3. My lifestyle, which involves very little stress and avoids toxic people/environments. Most activities revolve around nature, health, yoga and meditation.
4. Holistic and alternative medicine.
5. The love and support of my family and friends.

The picture was taken by Suzy Lamont about a year after I finished chemotherapy, before reconstructive surgery had begun.
.
CHECK YOUR BREASTS!!! I found the lump myself. MORE IMPORTANTLY, live a healthy life style so the disease does not develop. QUESTIONS?? Contact me.
